So I am looking to get a laptop for not only school but video and photo editing as well. I know that I can get a windows laptop for cheap, but im focused on getting a macbook pro. I want to get the 15 inch preferably, but I am wondering whether or not I should wait for the 2016 model? I know it will most likely have a faster processor, maybe better battery life and a USB-C port. What I am really wondering though is about the Skylake processor, what is the difference between that and the current Haswell one? Would it be a good idea to wait for that one? I know a lot of people say dont wait just buy, but time is it really a concern as much as performance. If anyone could help me out that would be great! Thank you!

The 2016 MacBook will be using a Skylake generation CPU with Intel Iris Pro Graphics. It will not be using the 7th generation Kaby Lake generation CPUs which are expected to be released in 2016 with "standard" Intel HD graphics. Kaby Lake CPUs with Inte Iris Pro Graphics will likely not be released until 2017.
Overall, there is not much difference in CPU performance between 5th gen Broadwell and 6th gen Skylake CPUs. It's probably an average of around 5% when looking at various benchmarks.

Apples tends to wait for Intel CPUs with higher end Intel Iris Graphic cores as opposed to Intel HD graphic cores. Based on the following link Skylake generation CPUs will have the Intel Iris Graphic 540 or 550. However, Notebookcheck.net estimates that they will not be as powerful as the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 (Haswell) and Intel Iris Ori Graphics 6200 (Broadwell) that they will be replacing.
