Does Avast monitor everything I do in the internet?

After the latest update, I saw Avast inserting a signature inside my emails, sent from any browser I use. The signature says, "This email has been sent from a virus-free computer protected by Avast!" Talk about marketing!

Now this made me paranoid. I do not have any Chrome extension in use (except Disconnect) and none in other browsers. So how does Avast infiltrate the browsers to sneak up on me and my emails (and whatever I do)?

There is an option in Avast's settings to not send this signature, but that doesn't prevent Avast from sneaking up on whatever I do.

Solution
I think it is the mail shield that does it. If you don't like it either disable mail shield or disable the signature.

I personally turn off all data sharing if possible, even though I'm aware that nsa and gchq are already slurping all my data.
