Greeting! I have purchased a Vizio Smart LED TV(series M322iB1) and I got a Sony A/V 7.1 Receiver (STRDH-810 series). They both have ARC set-up on them using HDMI cable. I have the receiver already working for my other components: BluRay, Playstation-4, Roku3 and DVD player. They all work fine with the picture and sound quality, but whenever I just regularly watch TV, there is NO Surround/Multi-Channel Sound going through the receiver. The Vizio have the Digital Out set to 'Bitstream' and Analog Audio Out set on 'Fixed' in order to work a Home theater receivers. I checked both manuals numerous times to make sure I set them up right and YES they are. But the ONLY TIME my receiver works is when I have the TV's CEC set ON and Sound Control ON and both the TV and receiver's speakers plays together. I don't want to use the TV speakers just the receiver's. Has anyone had this same problem with their surround-sound receivers? If so, WHAT is going wrong with mine if anyone can help(I'm nearly at my wit's ends on this)? <:-\

Hello back. Thank you for your response. Well yes the indicator/LCD screen on the receiver does show what sound is being channeled through it(A.F.D., Multi-Ch., C-STEX A, B, C, etc. surround sounds). I tried all those surround-sound settings - NO GOOD. The components I got it hooked shows what type of sound is being sent. The receiver's HMDI-CNTRL setting is set ON and my ARC setting is ON as well. I tried the 'Bitstream' & 'PCM' settings on the TV and that didn't work. I took both the TV's speakers and Surround Sound settings off AND even the Leveling settings just to see - NOPE that didn't work. The ONLY TIME the receiver does work is when I set the TV's CEC settings ON and Sound Audio Control ON, but BOTH TV AND Receiver's speakers are going now. The TV speakers would have a HIGHER volume setting than the speakers when I tune-it up. Again I DO NOT WANT to use the TV's speakers but just the receiver's and the 5.1 speakers I got(I'm waiting for my sub-woofer and other two Back-SS speakers to come in the mail).

BINGO - I think I found it!!! It was the CEC-settings! But you're right, Americanaudiophile - the manual DIDN'T put much deeper details about that. It's WORKING GREAT now. The volume-indicator on both the TV and Receiver may shown abit off, but the TV speakers are totally OFF and only going through the receiver now. SWEET DIGITAL sound-quality. Thank you again, Americanaudiophile, for helping out though. ;-)
