Camera: Olympus SZ-14 (compact)

I have the above camera and for a few months the catch mechanisms started to play up with the battery and then SD card, which are located in the same area. The result being that when I opened the section door the battery would be loose. This, however, was manageable.

Then the card started to stop latching so would disconnect resulting in the camera not reading it. Following advice on YouTube about a possible broken card fragment in the mechanism I fished around with a pair of tweezers to get it out. Now it won't power on at all. :( I could briefly get enough power to it when plugged into the computer (can charge through USB) to retract the lens which had stopped in the open position. There aren't many suitable shops in my area to do repairs and the repair price could be about £70 or £150 which, if the latter especially, wouldn't necessarily be worthwhile. Any advice please?

Thanks

You probably ripped out the contact switch or shorted something, SD cards don't break like that.

Your best bet is to just replace it, you can find some decent canon and nikon point and shoots for less than it would cost to repair.
