Got a lenovo y50 touch that will randomly shutdown even right after it fully boots to windows 8.1. Wasn't as bad when I updated windows and the gtx 850m 2gb graphics card. It isn't running hot and I'm not sure what else could cause it to shutdown. Any help to a solution is greatly appreciated

Hi,

One common cause of a random shutdown is due to overheating. But do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- First is to test the battery and AC adapter and make sure that they are supplying the correct voltage to power the laptop. Also do test the laptop if it will still shutdown on it's own with just the AC adapter connected.
- If it will still shutdown you may need to open the laptop and clean the inside of it making sure that all the fans inside is free from dust or debris that would stop it from spinning. Also apply a new thermal paste that would help a lot in cooling down your laptop.
- If all these will not work you it would be best to get a cooling pad that should help in cooling down the laptop and prevent it from overheating.

It isn't overheating and a cooling pad did nothing as it still shutdown. I had done all sorts of power testings and it resulted in the same thing of it shutting down with no warning. I even updated bios. II did disable a lot of uneeded startup programs and so far it hasn't shut down randomly. Further testing is going to be done to see if it was one or several start up programs that were causing the problem.
