I'm torn between these two computers. I want to be able to play skyrim, fallout 4, witcher 3 with some mods. On higher settings with a good frame rate. And would like to know which one to go with. The 551 has a TN screen and smaller form factor sporting a 2gb gtx960m while the latter has a ips screen with a 4gb gtx 960m. Help would be appreciated.

Oh sorry, i thought it was the 860m.

IPS looks so much better, when I made the switch from TN to IPS, it was worth it. IPS looks very beautiful, extremely black blacks and white whites. IPS is also newer so it should be more power efficient.

FPS and performance wise, both screens are the same because all that is done from the GPU.

I'm not necessarily worried about mobility that's easy to overcome with the right bag. I'm more concerned with the screens and the spec differences in the graphics cards and if they will effect performance when I play the games listed with some mods.

The asus g771jw-bsi7n04 has the gtx 960m. The mods I'll use will be maybe a couple of minor landscape mods but that's specifically for skyrim and fallout 4. The witcher already stresses computers out enough so chances are I won't mod that. Now let me ask this. What kind of screen do you prefer the 15 inch asus has a TN screen while the 17 has a ips screen. Will that effect performance, fps, power consumption?

Understood hmm it's still a tough decision. I've read that both of these computers can throttle under heavy load. Would a cooling pad help prevent that or is that like a system setting issue?

I'm so sorry for answsering very late, I hope this still helps.

Yes a cooling pad will help.
