A while back, I ordered a used GE60 2OE-003us off of Ebay for 625 USD. It came with a decent processor and GPU, but it didn't have the features I was looking for. The battery life was too short, the keyboard didn't light up, and it only had 1 2.5" bay and 2 RAM slots. I felt like I rushed buying my new laptop.

I was thinking of selling the laptop on ebay with the upgrades I made (12GB RAM and 256GB SSD) for ~500-550 USD, then buying this whitebook for 510 USD: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-GT70-Gaming-Laptop-DIY-Barebone-kit-17-3-MS-17632-Nvidia-770-GTX-3GB-GDDR5-/221937250879

Is this too much trouble/not worth it?

Only if you intend finding and installing a CPU, memory, drive, and OS..., also not a major jump in graphics performance. Basically buying a chassis, motherboard, and hopefully the GPU they claim it to have.

How much memory do you need that 2 slots isn't enough?

Gaming machines will not get good battery performance. They consume way too much power relative to practical battery sizes.

Depending on your total planned spend, I would say look at SagerPC or another Clevo chassis reseller if you want modularity and customization.

I Guess you have made right decision, if you are not satisfied then there is no use of keeping it with you.. its better you sell it.. but do make a good deal.. Good luck
