Right now i'm using a Turtle Beach PX3+Asus Xonar 5.1 sound card. Would any of the newer headsets sound much better? (since most come with their own 'sound card' in the usb adaptor) Like would the Hyper X Cloud 2 be any better or actualy worse? Also unclear on how wireless vs wired plays a role with an amplifed sound card. (guessing it would work better for wired connection?)

the xonar dgx would be about equal to or slightly better than what comes with headsets. it does have a stronger amplifier though.

yes, wireless headphones are self powered so you lose such benefit. also, you lose the benefit of your soundcard if you use any usb headset. the only headphones or headsets you should be looking at are wired versions if you want to use the dgx.

if all you need is a pair of headphones, the hd518 is a good choice. if you need a mic you can always get a clip on, moovmic or modmic.
what xonar soundcard?

most of the soundcards that come with headsets are equal to onboard audio or at most the xonar dg in terms of quality. if you have a better card than that, likely your soundcard is better.

depending on your audio preferences you may find headsets like the hyper x cloud superior to what you have now though perhaps not by a huge margin. if you want a bigger increase i'd look at getting hifi headphones instead (or something like the game one, game zero, pc363d, mmx300, ath-adg1 or similar if you absolutely want an all-in-one)

I have the Xonar DGX - not a top line card of course, but it is 5.1 with Dolby amplifier. I don't play competitively but I just want pure immersion with surround sound. (like with ambient horror games) Do I lose the ability of the amp in the soundcard if i'm using a wireless headset?
