Title says it all, Only being used for playing games, mainly FPS.
I'm probably going to get an Fiio E10k on there as well.

Thanks.

depends on what you are looking for in a headphone really.

the ad700x has a much larger soundstage.
the hd558 will have a bit more bass.
the ad700x uses an odd wing design. some love it, some hate it. the hd558 uses a traditional headband.
the ad700x will be brighter in treble.
the hd558 is easy listening, though as a consequence is a bit slow. the ad700x is a bit more aggressive.

both are good choices. if you play mostly fps and want advantage, the bass-light nature of the ad700x is best for that.

Well im not sure if it helps you out any but ill try to help you.

I just got my shipment of the audio technica a700x (the closed headphones version) last week.

I use mine for everyday gaming myself paired with a creative soundblaster omni that supports 5.1 surround, best headphones i have ever listened to in my life. Crystal clear beyond belief.

P.s. I mostly play fps as well (Battlefield/arma etc etc)

You would choose the closed over the open back?

the a700x and ad700x are very similar, just open vs closed back.

overall the ad700x open back is superior sounding given its larger soundstaging however some listeners require closed back to isolate them from ambient noise which is my i'm guessing he made that choice. the a700x closed back isnt a bad choice at all if you need closed back but liked the ad700x.

i live in a loud environment, the one and only reason i got a closed back set.

ANY other reason at all i would reccommend the open air set
