Hi guys! Recently my laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series if I remember correctly) started lagging especially whenever I played games like Skyrim, Fallout 3, Naruto, Crysis and etc. The lagging started after I deleted around 90gb worth of anime and tv shows bc my hard drive was literally almost full.

The games that I played used to run smoothly but now, I cant even last 5 minutes bc of the lag

As far as I know, my specs are: intel i7-4510U @ 2.00GHz/2.60 GHz (idrk), 8.00gb RAM, Intel HD 4400 (not sure).

I already defragged, cleaned my temp folder, checked for viruses and none are helping me return my laptop to its old self. Ive grown frustrated bc Ive also tried resetting my laptop but an error occurs whenever it reaches 53%. I would be really grateful if someone could help me.

Hi,

Start by updating all your drives specially you graphic card. Check Intel Support site and see if there are any updates for their graphics card. Next is to try and run another virus/malware clean up tools.

Here's a link that contains those tools:

Lastly, is also to run a test with your HDD just to make sure it's healthy and functioning properly.

Here's a link of Intel HD 440 graphics driver the most updated one there is from their site.

If you get an error when trying to "reset" which I am guessing means doing a factory restore, it may be a hard drive issue. Although with your specs, it is not really a gaming system running on the HD 4400 video, you'd have to play games at low settings. Just deleting files should not have changed anything at all with the system, maybe you also did something else around the same time?

You should also check for a drive utility to scan the drive from Dell, sometimes the BIOS options have a hardware test option.

I suggest you check your temps (especially if performance gradually drops as you play for long time) it is rather possible that your CPU starts throttling to cool itself down and it's especially true to i7 chips. If you see temps about 85-90 then i advice tou to get a decent cooling pad.
