Locked my Sony Vaio Duo keyboard

I am really hoping someone can help, as I have now been without a keyboard for several days.

I made the mistake of cleaning my keyboard yesterday whilst my laptop was on. I must have pressed something which has disabled my keyboard. Can someone help me get it back on?

My laptop is a Sony Vaio Duo 13 (SVD 13 22C5E). It doesn't have a removable battery or a reset button. I do not have a USB keyboard I can try. I am running Windows 10 Home 64 bit. The keyboard was working fine for weeks following the update, so it isn't that. I also don't think I have installed any software which could be causing the issue.

  • In device manager, keyboard is "working properly" and I have tried to check for driver updates.

Using the assist button to access the BIOS, the keyboard didnt work here, which is worrying.

I have tried disabling sticky keys in the Ease of Access settings.

I have tried uninstalling the keyboard from the Device Manager. Both the 'HID keyboard device' and the 'PC/AT Enhanced PS/2 Keyboard (101/102-key). Both automatically reinstalled upon reboot.

I have tried holding down the shift key and holding down both the L and R shift keys simultaneously.

None of the keys work. This includes the caps lock indicator light and function keys. I hear no sound upon pressing any keys. Annoyingly, I don't have a restore point set up.

Can someone help me to identify if I busted my keyboard during cleaning (which I would struggle to believe, as it was just a damp cloth) or to help me 'unlock' it. My gut instinct is that I pressed a combination of keys when cleaning that has triggered a setting or locked the keyboard.

Thank you

"Hi the same thing happened to me and I resolved it, so I'll share here because this is the first website I came to when googling the problem. Hopefully will help others in the future.
I called tech support and they advised me that there is a Battery Reset Button and that I should press it.
This is difficult to find. On the Vaio Duo 13 it's located on the same face as the keyboard, but behind the screen. nearest the usb ports and by the speaker. You have to raise the screen as it is underneath it. It looks like a small pinhole, which you need to press with an unfolded paperclip.
The laptop was off when I pressed it, and keyboard worked again when I booted it up."

Thank you for this. I am surprised I didnt turn this up through my own searching. I have tried the battery reset button a few times now. I turn my laptop off, remove the power cable and hold the button down (tried on my last attempt for over a minute) then try to restart. I can't restart until I reinsert the cable.

This doesn't seem to make a difference to anything, if I am doing it correctly. Grr.

Surely if my laptop was ruined by a small amount of water from my cloth when cleaning, I would get some results from troubleshooting, etc.?

Final bump.

I bought an external keyboard and it works fine.

Interestingly, using my touchscreen keyboard, I can trigger the caps lock light to come on. This is something that doesn't happen when I press the key.

Does this info help me in anyway? Sony support have offered to take it in for a repair, but I dont fancy losing my laptop (need it for work) and having to do a full restore.

Thanks
