Got fallout 4 and realized my gtx 870m doesnt play that great on my laptop. Anyone know if its possible to hookup an external desktop gpu like a 980 or 970 and be able to play like my friends computer where his 970 plays ultra just fine. Im almost positive i found the plug to connect the egpu to my laptop but was wondering if there was any issues with msi. Also if it will work im trying to find some adapters that will work.

just answering because it's the first thing google shows when searching for "msi laptop external gpu":

yes, you can always add an external gpu to your laptop, but the external one won't work with full power.
steps:
1. open laptop
2. remove wifi card if it's connected to mini pcie (or any other mini pcie component)
3. put a mini pcie to thunderbolt cable into it
4. connect it with the egpu that's connected with an external pcie idc about what it's called.

pro:
-much cheaper than buying a new pc
-it'll still run pretty well

contra:
-if you [watch your language] it up you'll end with a broken laptop
-only possible if your laptop has a dedicated gpu (intel igpu trash is NO dedicated gpu)

note: don't complain when you break your laptop.

Can you post a link to a mini pcie to thunderbolt adapter. I'm looking at doing that with my GS70 Stealth Pro.

sorry for the late answer. idk about mini pcie to thunderbolt, but there is hardware like this that you connect to your laptop:
