Hi everyone,

So recently I've decided to open up my Sony laptop that lay idle in the house for like 6 months and I have tried getting it to turn on again. Reason being was because the laptop fan became INOP and was fed up of troubleshooting the same thing as it had become a recurring problem since the year before. I've taken it to hardware shops for repairment, but surprisingly, it all led to the same thing i.e A noisy fan that, after some time would stop working. Since I have owned this laptop for a long time, my eager pursuit to finding a resolution for the fan was found on this forum but I suppose it may have triggered a new problem where the laptop shuts-down upon starting. I have done some thorough research online, checking/replacing the RAM, renewing thermal paste on the CPU, Removing external power and depressing power button for 3 mins, re-checking the connections on the boards (there was a lose connection from the board to the power supply), locking/unlocking CPU (position was in neither LOCK/UNLOCK but its a 'locked' processor), Ejecting the disc tray upon starting, but all still led to the same thing. Note that all these were carried out on AC power only (No battery). So I tried starting the laptop with the battery inserted and 'vuala' ... It turned on, or so it seemed. Having it turned on for 4 minutes seemed like my life's work on this trash had finally paid its toll until the 10th minute where it turned off again. I retried turning it on and the same problem persists. I hate to expect the worst but if it has to be a malfunction in the motherboard, or the CPU, then I'm afraid I'm going to be losing a very good friend. But for the sake of optimism, if there are any tips or advice you're willing to give, would be most helpful :)

Hi,

I am going the same path you are going through, maybe is time to say goodbye to this beloved friend?

Cheers.
