I have an HP Pavilion DV6-1149wm laptop (yes it is old, and yes it is cheap), that came in for a heatsink/fan replacement, which I completed successfully. However, upon rebooting, I received the 3F0 error "Please install an operating system on your hard disk" or "Hard drive does not exist".
BIOS does not even see a hard drive, regardless of what I try.
I have tried the following:
1) Mounted HD via USB on different laptop - successfully recognized and all data intact
2) Mounted HD as primary drive in a different HP laptop - recognized and booted successfully
3) Reinstalled HD in original laptop (DV6) - "Hard Drive Does Not Exist" - 3F0 error
4) Mounted HD as USB external drive on original laptop - recognized successfully
5) Replaced connector between hard drive and motherboard on original laptop - did not help
6) Replaced motherboard (thinking that the SATA controller was bad) - did not help
7) Replaced HD with a new hard drive - did not help
8) HD is not recognized in the BIOS at all in the original laptop
9) Original laptop displays the same 3F0 error whether or not it has the hard drive installed.
10) Attempted installing known good hard drive from another laptop with the same OS in original laptop, would not recognize.
11) Attempted to boot original laptop with hard drive mounted as external HD, and all goes well until the "Starting Windows" screen - then a BSOD occurs and reboots...boot loop at this point.
12) Cannot reinstall Windows 7 on a drive that is connected by USB. Windows will not allow it (at least that's what the warning said on the screen).
13) Reinstalling hard drive in original laptop with all original parts and attempted to use the Windows Install Disk to Repair Computer - no hard drive recognized, so no Windows Installations were found.
I've been repairing computers for 10-15 years, and I've NEVER had a routine repair go awry like this.
Please help. This has been a very frustrating repair!
