So i bought some Razor Kraken Pro's. I noticed that in comparison to my 20 yo Sony Stereo headphones, they sound very 'distant' and almost cloudy. Not very sharp. However, I have tested much more expensive "over-the-ear" type of headphones and they have all this very unique 'cloudiness' that maybe I will get used to over time?

Also I tested out the mic. They pick up every tiny little noise, and there is a faint static noise when i hold down push-t0-talk in Teamspeak without saying anything.

I haven't loaded the free 7.1 surround software yet..will that make them sound noticeably different? how will it affect music?

Solution
The software will change the sound, but it won't change the fact that all "7.1" headsets are pretty much garbage for anything. Just return them if possible and get a real headset like the Sennheiser G4ME or the HD429s

Those are like 200 dollars...-_-

EDIT: THE seinnheisers are only 50 dollars. So what do I do, buy those 20 dollar clip-on mics everybody talks about? What's a good clip-on for less than 50 dollars?

Also how confident are you with those 429s?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fD-M1F6L4g according to this video open headsets are always better because they have a bigger 'sound-stage'.

You can always go with a separate mic, most from reputable companies are good. If you do that, consider the HD558 instead, better sound (but no integrated mic)
