I have an old dell laptop that I want to project onto my flat screen tv with a vga to hdmi cable. Once the cable is in place, what steps do I take to make that happen?

Solution
First you return the cable.*
Next you order a good vga to hdmi active adapter.
then you read the instructions and hook it up.
Boot up the laptop.
turn on the tv and set the source to match the port the laptop is on.
If theres no picture then you press the key combo on the laptop that cycles which display its using. Something like Fn+F4 and it should cycle from internal to internal and external then to external only and repeats back to internal..

*Vga is an analog signal and HDMI uses a digital signal. Unless your tv manual specifically say this kind of cable is all you need then it won't work which is why you need the active adapter. You might want to doublecheck your tv, Many do have a vga port on them.
