HP ProBook 4430s display problem. (Win7Pro - 64 bit) Initial problem was black screen on startup. When I finally determined the machine was actually booting up I connected an external monitor which displays all pictures and text fine. After numerous reboots the laptop display started working but with a solid red background and distorted (fuzzy) pictures and text. I updated driver but the screen display is unchanged. Please help..........

Hi,

If it displays normal using an external display it may be an issue with the built in display. Please do try these troubleshooting steps to identify the real issue.
- While it's displaying thru the external display press the Windows key + P at the same time and select Display Only and press Enter. See if you'll get the display back on to the built in one.
- If it doesn't and if you're comfortable opening your laptop to check the cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard please do so. Also do try to reseat the cable just to make sure it's connected properly.
- If the laptop is still under the factory warranty do contact HP support for it to be repaired.

I did as you suggested (Window key + P at same time & select Display Only & press Enter) and the display does NOT come back. I am not familiar with steps necessary to check the cable to motherboard connection or how to get to it. The laptop is NOT under factory warranty. Thanks.
