Hi everyone, I have a question I've been thinking of. First of all I'll go to college nearly and I want something to help me be more productive. I'll be in electrical engineering, and for that I'll be using AutoCAD and Matlab and other programmes for sure. I don't think of playing games at all. Which one of these suits me better, surface pro 3 i7 or surface pro 4 i5 ? Note: they are at the same price right now .

Solution
The SP3 uses the i7-4650U. 1.7 GHz, turbos to 2.8 GHz on two cores, 2.9 GHz on one core. 4 MB cache. Intel HD 5000 graphics.

The SP4 uses the i5-6300U. 2.4 GHz, turbos to 2.9 Ghz on two cores, 3.0 GHz on one core. 3 MB cache. Intel HD 520 graphics.

The HD520 graphics seems to be about 40% faster than the HD5000 in early benchmarks. That may make a difference in your CAD work. OTOH if you do a lot of numerical processing the larger cache on the i7 may be more useful.
