Our Samsung home theater box just broke (said fan check), we replaced the fan, still didn't work. So, we pulled out our old Sony stereo receiver and tried to connect it to the TV and to our surround sound speakers. All we got is a humm with some inaudible voice, but that's about it. We're not sure if we are connecting it properly. And, since we do not have a HDMI connection on the Sony nor do we have an optical digital connection, is there anyway to use this receiver?

Since the surround sound system speakers have wires; if we can't hook these two units together, I assume we would now need to purchase all new wireless speakers and an entirely new surround sound system.

These work but don't expect Fantastic sound quality, you normally get slight buzzing, humming or popping at low volumes because of the lower quality cokes in the power circuits. I've installed a few with older receivers so I know at least they work.

It depends on the Room size, amount of $$$.
For a under $300 Receiver for a room with existing Speakers these are nice, output quality will depend on the Speakers themselves. A Mid Range Amp with good Speakers is going to be much better than a high End Amp and low quality Speakers.

Ive got 1 Series 7 750's it has about everything you would expect out of a medium quality Level TV. Toslink Out,Hdmi Out, RCA Out... Which Model is yours? I know they make several under that Class.
