Hi all,

I have a laptop set up with an external monitor. I currently have it configured through Windows, therefore the screen remains off (in save power mode) until Windows is loaded. With this setup, if I want to get into the boot menu, bios, etc, I have to open the laptop and use the laptop screen.

I've recently installed Ubuntu on an external HDD, and I'd like for the boot options to be displayed on the external laptop so that I can both choose which OS I want to load, and to get Ubuntu to display on the external monitor. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Hi,

As far as I know when it comes with external monitors connected to a PC you can only maximize it's use only from the Windows log on screen. You'll always need to use the laptops built in screen for you to see the Boot Options and BIOS because it uses the integrated display. I hope this insight will help in your quest to find another solution.
