I recently just built my own pc for the first time was alot easier than I had first thought does anyone know if laptops are similar? I'm running a 4 years old 1.10ghz pretty crappy cpu 8ram laptop wanting to upgrade the cpu massively as I feel it is the reason for my slow laptop would this be the same as just swapping the cpu over in a pc? If not is their a type of laptop brand that sells upgradeable laptop? I seen on the news the other day there was a company doing this with mobile phones so surely laptops also

The vast majority of laptops are not upgradeable to any real extent.
You can change the drive(s).
You can probably add RAM.
You can maybe change the CPU, within a small range of others.
Very rarely can you change the GPU. And only on expensive laptops.

That modular phone is a brand new thing. Laptops are not there yet.

The laptops that are upgradable you then have the challenge of actually getting the parts as each model is unique and doesn't follow a industry standard. Its also so expensive the performance gain is unlikely to be worth the cost.

People that actually upgrade their desktops are a tiny minority.
Those who would do so with a laptop are even smaller.

And then you get into the whole design/cooling aspect. A laptop case is TINY. Adding new parts to increase performance also increases heat inside the case. How to get rid of that? Laptops are already running at their max.
And then you have the battery issue.
