Hello,

Previously I always used Avast anti virus on my windows 7 laptop. Yesterday I upgraded to windows 10 and found there is already an anti virus software built in. "Windows Defender" - it helps protects windows from viruses.

I heard somewhere on the internet that windows defender is not as much strong and effective compared to other anti virus software's like Avast, or AVG - etc.

What do you guys say on this?

Defender gets a 3 outta 6 rating at avtest.org

On last test it detected just 87% of 0-day malware attacks.

When I was asked to clean my S-I-L's puter (which had windows built in protection) it had over 1200 infections.

With AV's, ya get what ya pay for. Check the reviews / ratings here:

Most of the highly rated solutions are suites that do AV, malware, adware. Recognize however that some of the more aggressive suites (like the ones with perfect scores) often have conflicts with various programs.

We have multiple site licenses for BitDefender which has issues for example with Asus MoBo utilites, Secunia, older office suites and can even cause BSODs when certain applications are...

Most of the major suites have had these type of issues however they are most oft associated with the license protection / anti-pirating efforts than the SV / malware functions.
