I am looking to buy a laptop to record game play from my xbox one and edit the video and do music editing, not sure if there is a laptop that comes ready with all the programs and things I need to do this ? I would like to not have to build a computer to do all of this. I will be buying an elgato capture card, and am not sure if there will be much more i need ? I am looking to spend between $1700 - $3000 that is on the high end , cheaper is always better. Thanks in advance for any replies...

You not need to spend that much money on a laptop to do video and music editing. All you really need is a laptop with a quad core CPU. I dual core CPU will do fine, but video encoding / editing benefits from a quad core CPU which will help speed up the process. Not sure if music editing benefits a lot from a quad core CPU. I believe all MacBoo Pro uses dual core CPUs.

However, laptops with quad core CPUs are generally heavier than dual core CPUs due to the need for better cooling, but there are some relatively light high end gaming laptops with quad core CPUs. They are expensive because of additionally design and engineering involved to keep the laptop cool enough when playing games.

No laptop will come ready with the software you need, unless perhaps you go to a boutique laptop store that specializes in customizing a laptop with the software you want, but that would be a bit expensive since you need to buy the hardware, software and pay for the specialist's time.

Something like the soon to be released Dell Inspiron i7559 can do what you want for a relatively low price of $800, but it is a bit heavy at around 5.67lbs and it is a gaming laptop. It comes with a quad core i5-6300HQ (no hyper threading), a nVidia GTX 960m and a 1TB hard drive for plenty of storage capacity. However, if you do not want a dedicated GPU, then there are laptops with only a quad core i7 (which has hyper threading) CPU for around $800 as well.

But MacBooks are relatively light and generally have pretty good battery life. You just need to get used to Mac OS, unless you are already familiar with it.
