hi everyone I want to run some sort of DVR on my file server. but don't want a big coax cable running to my server is there anyway to record iptv (internet streamed) like BBC 1 etc

What I would like to achieve is recording of main channels uk on a schedule and no big coax cable I want it wire and to tuner free

Does anyone no of a way to achieve this
Software and websites and methods please

Please note I hold a valid tv licence for the uk so am legally allowed to record live tv
I already no about websites like filmon but they want a monthly subscription obv I want this to be free or as close free as possible

Otherwise it would be better to just buy a DVR

I don't know UK laws about TV programmes, but even you are "legally allowed to record live tv", I suppose Internet streams are covered by ToS of BBC site, and I doubt they mention "legal to record".
If you don't want "big coax cable running to the server", buy a network TV tuner. You connect the coax to it, then connect the tuner to your network, and run DVR software on the server.

HDHomeRun is a line of boxes which grab the TV signal off your coax cable, convert it into a MPEG2 or H.264 stream, and broadcast it over your network. That is, you can plug it in anywhere in your home LAN, and as long as your server is on the same LAN it can receive the TV stream. The main difficulty is getting popular HTPC software to work with it. Windows Media Center worked great with minimum fuss, but Microsoft removed it from Win 8. Getting it working with Plex and Kodi (formerly XBMC) involves a lot more work.

There are a variety of licensing and encryption issues surrounding how you can use these. So be sure to research it thoroughly before you buy.
