Ok this problem only started recently and only in normal Windows 7 mode. Out of the blue (no pun intended) a BSOD with the error code "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" appeared. After running BlueScreenView it pointed to the driver "ntoskrnl.exe" as causing the problem with "ntoskrnl.exe+735c0" as the address. After seeking help online I was told to run a Memtest twice which I did with 0 errors reported even after 8 or 9 passes (see links below). I also ran various scans prior to this and no issues were detected. Eventually things got worse and I could not connect online even in Safe Mode with Networking so I factory reset my laptop. I thought this would resolve the issue...

Now less than a day later after updating all of Windows Updates the same BSOD error has returned this time with the address "ntoskrnl.exe+74200". I honestly don't know how I can fix this so would appreciate any help. The laptop itself is not that old and I've never ran into problems like this before. Any help would be much appreciated :(

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help in resolving that issue.
- First is to reseat your RAM, if you have 2 RAM sticks swap their places from each slot.
- Boot the PC back to your desktop and observe if you'll still get the bluescreen error if your do
- Try each 1 of the memory cards. Put one in and boot the laptop, also try each memory slot to identify if just 1 memory card or slot is the culprit.
- Lastly, if you have an rubber eraser clean the gold part of the memory before putting them back in.

A simple test for you to try.
This test will let you know if the cause is malware, or a virus that has infected your system or replaced any system files or any root kits have been installed without your knowledge on your laptop.

Power the laptop on, and Tap the F8 key in rapid succession, till you are presented with the windows 7 OS booting options and repair options.

Select safe mode, with networking.

See if the system is stable and does not generate a error of Irq not less or equal to.

If it does not while in safe mode.
At the same time as a virus or mall ware, or any kind of root kit.
It also tells you that the cause of the error is driver related to the system crash of Irq not less or equal to.
And also your error with Ntoskrnl error message.

All you simply do then.
Is while in windows safe mode, is to click on start, control panel. and your backup and restore options of windows 7.
Remembering the rough date or day you first experienced the error with the laptop.
Choose a system restore point before it began to happen.

Let the system restore of windows do it`s thing.
The system will restart, and should load windows into it`s normal working mode.

Install Anti virus software on your laptop if you currently have none running on the laptop.
Click on the link below to download and install free anti virus software if you have none installed on your laptop currently.
http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage

Please click on the link bellow for Mall ware removal and scanning software that is free to use.
https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Install both and scan your system for any malware infections, or virus infections plus and root kits that may of been installed on your laptop by running the two programs one at a time.

Hope fully if you follow the advice and guide above it will resolve your error messages and laptop os system crashing.

Let me know the results please.

@Laptop Nerd - I'll try this now and see what happens.

@scout_03 - I'm getting a "500 - Internal Server Error" when I try and download that link you gave me. Also I ran many full scans right after the first BSOD and no problems were detected (Malwarebytes, Avast etc). I have read online people are having similar problems with "ntoskrnl.exe" recently so maybe it might have something to do with Windows Update?

@Shaun o - Thanks for the tips but unfortunately I have done all of this. I can only avoid a BSOD in Safe mode with networking (This is how I am able to post to you guys in the first place). I have already done a clean install of Windows 7, fully updated everything and ran a full system scan with 0 problems reported. Every scan I run keeps saying there is nothing wrong with my laptop but the BSOD keeps happening.

Hi
I m experiencing the same probleme
Crash at : ntoskrnl.exe+74200
I must tell you that, in my case, it's surelly not caused by a hardware problem
Let me explain :
I have many Windows 2008 R2 servers, running on different hypervisors
I meet that problem on 3 different servers, located on 3 different hypervisors (and different locations also...)

I keep the minidump only from 1 server. But the behavior was exactly the same on the 2 others ...

So it's not linked to a hardware problem
