Hi all

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, Model SVE171E13M. I have two chargers for it: the original which I use at home and one that I bought off Ebay which I use at work. Both have been working fine for the last few years but yesterday, in the office, I started to smell a burning smell. I realised that the laptop charger and cord were very hot so I unplugged it all.

I assumed it was just a burnt out charger and continued to work on my laptop (which seemed to be unaffected). This morning I plugged in the second charger at home to charge the laptop and realised that it's not charging. As well as not charging there is a very feint ticking noise, rather like a watch coming from the laptop that only happens when I plug the charger in.

As the laptop itself is functioning perfectly except for the charging issue I'm guessing it's not terminal. Can anyone advise on what may be happening and any possible solutions? Laptop has no run out of charge completely so unfortunately I can't turn it on to troubleshoot.

[EDIT]
I've realised that it's not the computer but the charger that's making the ticking sound and it's more of a chirp than a tick. Some kind of notification/alarm I expect. So just to be clear:

1. Third party laptop overheated / burnt out and not charging laptop
2. Laptop working but not charging
3. Original charger not charging but making a feint chirping sound only when plugged in to the laptop.
[/EDIT]

Any help appreciated.

TIA,
Chris

Thanks for the reply.

Oh dear. I was hoping there'd be a possible soloution as the laptop is working perfectly, just not charging. If anyone else can confirm or give any suggestions that would be helpful.

Thanks,
Chris
