What I need:
-Budget: around €1300
-15" laptop or ultrabook
-Laptop fan must be QUIET. I'm currently using a 5 year old Toshiba satellite L650 i3 processor with AMD graphics card and the fan is annoying.
-SSD, 128Gb is adequate . Don't want SSHD or HDD. The reason I' m looking for a laptop with only a SSD is I wan't to keep it QUIET and really fast for opening and closing stuff and booting up.
-8 Gb RAM is enough.
-Fast Intel i7 processor or better i5. Quad core if possible, not priority though. I would rather fast dual core processor than slow quad core. The multitasking I will be doing is editing many powerpoints, word files at one time, internet, adobe and (Matlab, solidworks, SAS other eng software) occasionally.
-Screen Resolution: high definition screen. The 1,920x1,080 resolution in Lenovo Y70 looked amazing.
-OP system, ideally win10 but I can always upgrade it in time.
-Preferably backlit full size keyboard.
Don't need graphics card as I think this is the reason why my current laptop has fan on constantly.

Dell inspiron 15 7000 (7547) is the closest I have found but people say the graphics card is rubbish/redundant and the 2 fans can be heard. I viewed a Lenovo Y50 and it was savage but I dont have the budget. I will be using the laptop for college. final year engineering. I may use it for solidworks but I can always use my old laptop for that. The main point of upgrading is to get a fast laptop that will save me time in college. I don't mind paying for extra performance as I intend using the laptop for many years like the last one.

Can you offer suggestions? Thanks in advance

If you want a quiet laptop, then you need to look for a laptop with a dual core "u" model CPU; like the i5-5200u. Quad core CPUs generate a decent amount of heat so expect to hear fan noise especially when the CPU is taxed. The same can be said of the "u" model CPUs, but since they consume 1/3rd the power of a quad core CPU, they also generate less heat.

A dedicated graphics chip can generate a significant amount of heat when used so expect to hear fan noise. If you do not need a dedicated GPU for what you do, then relying on integrated graphics can reduce heat and fan noise. However, I am pretty sure Solidworks benefits from a dedicated GPU.

You basically cannot get away from fan noise when doing CPU / GPU intensive tasks unless you...

You basically cannot get away from fan noise when doing CPU / GPU intensive tasks unless you buy a laptop that has no fan. But that would limit you to a Core M CPU like the Core M 5Y10 which is a bit less powerful than a Core i3 CPU.

The Dell inspiron 15 7000 (7547) has a nVidia GTX 750m GPU which was considered pretty decent for games when it was first released. Nowadays, it's performance is considered to be the same as the nVidia 940m which is a pretty decent mainstream GPU, but is generally only capable of playing games with low / medium settings at 1366x768 / 1600x900 resolution; depending on the game. But the GTX 750m is definitely a lot better than integrated graphics.

If you can compromise on the screen there is the DELL XPS 13 pretty much has all that and more.
Since you want a quite laptop you are going to have to look for an ultrabook or something without a GPU. I would suggest the MBP15 but that's too expensive. Also the DELL XPS 15 is awesome with it's new design, but it costs more than what you got.

IBM\Lenovo should be checked out.i have a T61 thinkpad that is very quiet.
Hp also has some good quiet laptops.
I never heard of a laptop being noisy.
My bro the computer engineer advised me years ago to avoid Dell. they use recycled parts in their pcs.
