Hi there,

I just purchased a used HP 6460b laptop. It's a very nice laptop but some of the brushed aluminium finish on the palmrest has faded slightly and has gone slightly shiny in some places instead of the regular matt finish.

Has anyone experienced this before? How would I resolve it. My Dad owns a car garage so I have access to quite a number of polishes etc.

Obviously, this is a very premium grade laptop so I would love for it to look its best.

Thanks very much.

Personally, I would just leave it alone. If it is real aluminum and not some coated plastic or something, you would have to re-brush it. You would need a power tool/drill attachment that looks like a sanding wheel but with bristles - a round brush to get the random looking effect. You can also use a bench belt sander but it will look like even straight lines. I don't think a polish would do anything. You don't want it shiny, after all, and a polish will make it even more shiny than it already is.
