Hello all,
Hope i can get help with this issue before I decide to buy video card/motherboard.

I have sony vaio vpcca, intel hd series integrated and radeon hd 6600m dedicated chips.

I was playing a game, the laptop as usual got hot, but like always would cool down. Usually when I would have the game minimized, the fan would run very fast. I minimized it and switched to chrome for browsing, noticed fan wasn't running fast. Switched to game and fan came on for a bit and cooled down the laptop. Played for about half hour and got colored horizontal lines on my lcd screen and the computer shut down, then consistently receives power but won't even load vaio logo on boot.

I realized it might have over heated so I cooled it down, after couple of hours i tried to start the laptop and it came on, load the windows, however same horizontal lines appear on log on screen and the laptop repeats as mentioned.

I took the laptop apart to see if lcd cables got loose, tied it up, put everything together, still won't go past log on screen.

Another question is if I have 2 cards, if one is overheated why wouldn't it use the other. I know that the computer used radeon, for game and intel for desktop, so I don't know if it's motherboard or graphics card. Also if I need another card do i need exact model or any mobile hd radeon graphics?

Hi,

It seems like that your graphics card had overheated and caused it to fail that's why your getting those horizontal lines on it but to be sure please to test it in BIOS and see if you'll still be getting those lines and also connect an external monitor and see if you'll still get those line. If the lines are still present on the external monitor that means it's really time to replace your motherboard or graphics card.

Before you go any further of replacing your motherboard or graphics card please do try these troubleshooting steps as well.
Go to Device Manager and uninstall AMD graphics card driver
- Open Programs and Features as well and uninstall anything related to AMD graphics
- Download and install driver from AMD support site.
- Here's the link where you can download it: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
- Reboot the laptop for all the changes to take effect after it finished installing.
- After the reboot make sure that AMD is set to run all games.

Thanks for your reply and trouble shooting tips.
I tried in BIOS, same happens after a while. Also to correct myself, it's not dedicated gpu, it's one piece motherboard.
Since I've posted the problem, I've researched and read a lot about the problem. I've taken my laptop apart many times. removed the heat sink off cpu and gpu and applied thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5, Still the problem persisted. Read even more, removed one of the RAM, the computer worked perfectly, until the same starting to happen, put back the memory piece in, worked again good, until the same starting to happen. I don't know if it's the power supply; I don't see any liquid leaking and when I run the computer neither heat sink gets hot nor does the motherboard, but the computer still repeats the problem. Ran fanspeed while it worked for a bit, it was normal temps between 55-66 C, I also tried removing the battery, still no choice. My computer is out of warranty, I have to pay $60 bucks for diagnoses at Sony Service Center.

Vaio VPCCA Windows 10 64bit
6 GB RAM, 4 GB two GPUs, intel HD 3000 and Radeon HD 6600M / 6670M
