Hi, i have a dell m5110 laptop with dual ports (one mic and one speaker). The problem is when i plug in a mic it will detect the mic and everything but it wont receive any sound. For example if i skype my friend wont hear or if i recod a video you wont hear me speking etc... ive tried plugging in multiple mics but it wont work, does it need to be a headset with both ports or can i use separate speakers and mics? Sorry if my english is not the best since its not my native language...

In the lower right hand of your screen is your task bar.
Find the icon that looks like a speaker.
Right click it, select recording devices.
You will see one with a green bar that moves as you make sound.
Right click it, select Set as Default.
Now go into Skype to test it out.
