This fault first made an appearance about 2 weeks ago. At the time I was able to turn the laptop off and on again resulting in a quick fix. The fault is now permanent unfortunately.
Basically it appears as though every 2nd vertical line is missing from my display on my Asus X55S laptop resulting in what appears to be a very low resolution, the text being near impossible to read.
Has anyone else had this issue before? Could it just be a loose connection or is it likely a buggered screen?
I'm an electronics tech by trade so capable of carrying out and suggestion anyone may have. My experience isn't in PCs/Laptops though.

Happy to forward some pics if anyone wants to get a better picture (yes pun).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,

The lines could be dead pixels on your monitor. Try connecting an external monitor first and see if you'll display would be normal thru that display because if it is that means your built in display is already faulty and may require a replacement. Also try to open your laptop and see if the cable connecting the display is well seated into it's port in the motherboard. You can also disconnect and reconnect it making sure that it's well seated and may help in resolving that issue also.

Thanks Laptop Nerd.

I thought about the external monitor idea about 5 mins after posting, I'll grab a spare one from work tomorrow and bring home to test. Like you said, if that fails I'll open it up and see if anything needs reconnecting.
