Okay I'm really getting f*cking pissed already. My laptop has been decreasing in performance over time. It happens to my old pc before and this was the reason I bought my laptop. I use my laptop mostly to play CSGO. I always get 200 - 300 fps. but now days it gets only 40 fps which is f*cking fustrating. My laptop is 1 year old and my friend has a 3 year old laptop which sucks more than my specs but runs cs go at 170 - 200 fps. How the f*ck is this possible???!? This is really fustrating because I used my money to buy a new computer just to get away from this stupid lag. I know that laptop isn't powerful for gaming and also I don't need to have a high fps but I DO need to have high fps. It's for CS:GO spraying consistency. I do tend to install quite alot of programms but I don't think thats the case since I always check task manager and turn off processes that I know are not system processes. I also tried blowing out dust from my laptop but not a single dust flew out of my laptop vents??!. The last thing I would do is completely reformat my hard drive but I'm not sure if I'm up for it to reset yet.

And also yes I did run countless programms to detect malware, adware, virus, etc.

Sorry I'm quite a newbie. How do I check for power settings? I just wanna make sure I checked the right things.

I can't seem to find disk clearner and defrag on my laptop. There is defrag but I can't run it. Nothing happens.
I know theres a default windows disk cleaner and defragger but I can't get mine to work.

Windows 8.1

Its okay I found the disk clean up
C:\ > Right click hard drive > Properties > Disk cleanup.

I selected everything and even went twice for the cleanup system files and I still saw no difference.

Still haven't found the defragger.

Windows 8.1 Defrag = "optimize". If you found disk cleanup you were in the right spot. Local Disk (C) Properties, Tools, Optimize. If the drive is fragmented, optimizing it may help with load times, but should not affect FPS.

Power Settings - Control Panel, Power Options - Create a Power Plan (performance) or "Change plan settings" and customize it yourself. If this is set to power saver, it would explain lower FPS.

I would also download a temperature monitoring program such as HWINFO to ensure that there is no thermal throttling.

When gaming, what is your CPU, GPU, and memory usage? HWINFO will show the max, min, and current usage as well as other useful information.

CCleaner will clean your registry - it's free and popular.

This should get you started in your troubleshooting. There is more that you can do, but first check temperatures and CPU/GPU/memory usage.

Sorry im a noob how do i check for temp with hwinfo?

Okay.. so i'm guessing if I monitor the temperature and the temperature still remains kinda same when playing games like csgo it means I have throttling on right? I mean... Csgo>Increase temp>Throttling>Temp back to normal?

Throttling occurs when the temperature reaches the maximum safe temperature of the device. The device will downclock and reduce voltage to try to keep itself cooler. If you are running Intel cpu they are good until around 100c (depending on cpu), gpu around the same. If you are hitting those temperatures then you are likely throttling.

Sorry i'm a noob but how do i check my gpu temp in hwinfo?

I used some programm(Don't remember) that showed my processer cores are around 60 C.

BTW If I overclock my processer and gpu through bios would it harm the devices?

In HWINFO, there should be a category which lists GPU/video temperature. If you are using it and look through it, you will find it. I don't know of any laptops that allow overclocking through the BIOS, but maybe some do. If you can, I wouldn't until you verify your temperatures without an overclock. You want to test your temperatures while under load (gaming).

Okay so I found it and I don't really know if its good or bad. Here's some screenshots. I have Intel HD Graphics as my display gpu and Nvidia GeForce 740M as my Render GPU.

I saw this which I feel is whats causing the throttling?
It's some Performance Limit Reasons.

By the way, I have a process called HP CoolSense. Does that affect to?

I've never seen the "Performance Limit Reasons" in HWINFO but it looks informative. Since I am not familiar with it, I would have to do some Google Searches which I can't do right now because I have to get some sleep, but you could Google where there are the "Yes" to get more information.

I did notice that where it lists your hard drive S.M.A.R.T. that you have Drive Warning = Yes which indicates a problem with your hard drive, and it is usually a sign that it will fail sooner rather than later. If you haven't done so already, back up anything that you do not want to lose permanently. It could also explain the low FPS if part of an important system or video driver is in a failed sector. Install and run this: https://www.hgst.com/support/hard-drive-support/downloads#DFT which is the HGST Windows Drive Fitness Test.

I didn't quite understand "Performance Limit Reasons" so I can't address them. Your temperatures are good, so there are no problems there. I did notice that there was no change in your 740M GPU frequency between minimum and maximum, so if your laptop was under video load while you had HWInfo running, the 740M was at the idle frequency the whole time. As I previously stated, the hard drive has a problem. The same place you did disk cleanup and optimize, Check the drive for file system errors, and it should temporarily fix any drive problems. If it does fix the problem, you should continuously check for "Drive Warning" because it will likely happen again, and if it does, it means your drive does not have much longer to live. You should have already done a backup and should plan on purchasing another drive if you get any more warnings.

Have HWinfo running while you play games, and check again to see if the GPU Clock, GPU Memory Clock, and CPU Core Load increase significantly between minimum and maximum. If it doesn't, it means that the game is running off the iGPU and not the video card, causing low FPS.

Eh... That's a bummer.
I've never had any disk problem before even with my old PC. And I've been doing what I always do. Although I have a small laptop with SSD. Do you think I can fit that into my laptop?

I've run the setup and the program. The buttons don't work and it doesnt show any hard drives.

http://prntscr.com/8qauey

BTW Thanks for helping me all this way :)
***EDIT***
Found a way to check my hard drive. Not sure if its correct.

CMD> Enter "wmic">Enter "diskdrive get status">Status OK

Hey. i'm also wondering. I charge and play my laptop. Like even if my pc is 100% I would still plug it in with my charger and play. Does that affect?
