Sometimes periodic, but usually random, static noises in Tritton Kunai headset.

I was playing a popular steam game today (Team Fortress 2) and my headset decided that every second or so, it would make a sort of moderate static sound. Every 10 sounds or so, it would make a really loud, sort of disformed static that sounded like someone was blowing really hard into a microphone.

I also get random bits of static when I'm doing various things on my computer, but they don't happen often. I dismissed this until the game started doing it.

Are there any drivers that are necessary for using this headset? I just plugged themin since the first day I got them and just went straight to using them... It's not a big problem, I'm just curious as to what it is.

P.S. Apparently my microphone has a sort of ringing sound when in Skype calls. I've sort of deducted that it must be skype, since it only happens on that application, but I could be wrong. I tried changing skype audio settings but that didn't work either. Any help on these issues?

Just an update, about 3 minutes after posting this thread it just happened while I was playing music in Google Chrome on youtube. The static occured 5 times in around 5 seconds... pretty odd.

Thanks in advance,
Erick

It's not a USB device so it doesn't need drivers at all.

From the sound of it, either your audio codec's amp is failing or the headset itself is failing. Try using other headphones on your computer, and that headset on other computers (cellphones, etc, though computers are better).

It actually is a USB but you were correct about the audio codec. Thanks :)

Well crap. I just tested this and figured out that it was interference from my cell phone. Whenever I receive or send a text the static occurs.

Thanks for your inputs, I definitely wasn't expecting this to be the issue

You might want to consider shielding for the cables then. A nice shielding mesh cable with separate ground should keep sound clean, as will moving your cellphone to the opposite side of your desk.
