I am thinking of buying the msi apache laptop fitted with skylake 6th generation processor.
I am only an occasional gamer so would mostly be using it for everyday simple tasks such as watching tv and emails etc.
Question is, would it always consume high power and feel hot even when not being used for gaming use.
I like to leave on during daytime using screen saver so don't want to hear fan noise and being conscience of over heating?

With switchable graphics unless your running high performance 3-d applications such as adobe, 3ds maya, autodesk; you will likely be using the Intel HD IGPU which will drastically reduce power usage and produce lower temps.

In short yes. To ellaborate, the coolers are designed to keep it cool under pressure. When not stressed the cooler ramps down and runs much quieter.

Thank you for your answer, the model i have in mind has " Dedicated GeForce GTX 970M 3GB Graphics" would that still be switchable ?and would it select to the low power by default unless it detects an application that requires high power ?
