Currently playing music stored on PC using JRiver MC21 to PS3 to Onkyo tx-nr900.

Curious which DAC I'm listening to, guessing the last one in chain before speakers but am I right?

Solution
The DAC that is doing the conversion is in the last downstream device that is connected with a digital cable (optical, coax, or USB).
Why do you have the PC connected to the PS3?
For music playback I would suggest going directly into the Onkyo.

PS3 is connected via toslink

When I first got the receiver about 10 years ago, I did connect directly using onkyo nettune which was pretty awful, then went to windows media player because of an onkyo change. At some point I switched to media monkey and that's when I started using the PS3, which is on an ethernet connection.

Possibly JRiver could connect directly with the onkyo via network. Haven't tried it. The receiver doesn't have html or usb, my original PC did not have toslink, the current one does so I could do that. I guess. The distance is about 25 feet between PC and receiver.

I'm looking to upgrade my receiver this fall, so thinking I will be directly connecting to the new one. But now I wonder whether I should connect it via ethernet or toslink.

Thanks for the answer I appreciate it.
