Hey all been a reader of Tom's Hardware for a few years but this is my first post as I haven't found this particular question answered before.

Laptop Model: HP ENVY 17-J111TX
Intel Core i7-4700MQ
16Gb DDR3L
GeForce GT 740M
Samsung Evo 850 120Gb SSD

As the title explains I have been getting the 3F0 Boot Device Not Found error for a couple of days.

I have tried to fix using a few YouTube fixes but nothing worked.

Still have access to the BIOS.

SSD is working correctly as I plugged it into my dock and could access my files off my flatmates computer.

The SATA cable is all bent and folded over onto its self in several places, so gave me the indication that it finally broke.

I can still boot from my DVD drive fine, so my main question is am I able to buy a DVD to SATA enclosure and avoid the whole problem altogether?

I don't use my DVD drive and only need my SSD as I have many externals.

If you guys could comment on this plan? Will it work correctly and save me $120 for the SATA cable? Or will it make my problem worse?

Or if anyone can help me fix the 3F0 error or have I already correctly concluded that the SATA cable is indeed the problem?

Daniel
