Hi,
Please do try and open Notepad and see if you'll get the same problem because if you don't that means it's a software problem. You'll need to uninstall/reinstall the software and that normally resolves a problem with software. But if the same problem persist on Notepad it can be you're keyboard settings. Go to Control Panel and look for Region and Language and make all tabs are set to United States. Lastly, try and perform System Restore to an earlier date or time before the problem started happening.
