Mercurial laptop this one. I am currently experiencing lag/judder and beeping when I move my cursor. Started recently. It feels as though it's to do with the laptop just not keeping up with the intended movement, somehow. The system sounds are off. The beep is not a hardware code beep.

I have Win10 and Office 365.

I have been experiencing problem whereby the screen brightness settings reverse every time the laptop sleeps - so pressing the up button results in a darker screen and the down button results in a lighter one. When I next open the lid, up is light and down is dark.

On advice, I have installed older (8.1) graphics drivers to solve the problem (which it hasn't). I have no idea if this could be relevant.

I then downloaded a free app to search for and install all the up to date drivers for everything instead. This hasn't helped either.

I am also (coincidentally or not) having problems with excel - all the data appears to vanish (it's still there, but not visible on the screen) ...and then comes back in chunks. If I close the file and open it, it's fine again. Again, it feels as though the system just can't keep up - admittedly there are lots of formulae but there are only 100 or so records and maybe 30 columns, not exactly using the whole range of possibilities.

I am intermittently receiving a message EAccess Violation Something about ASHelper.exe 00005736 and a code 00405736 and read of 00000004.

Hope someone can help!

Many thanks.

Make sure to get the drivers specifically for windows 10. Open up your device manager in one window and the acer website I linked in another, then cross check the driver versions you have compared to Acer's offerings for your model. The BIOS can be found on the same page I linked and should also be the latest windows 10 version available. I recommend a reboot in between installing each driver to lessen issues that may arise.

Thanks, Naturesninja
Can I just check - when I go to the Acer drivers page, do I just download them all; I've been before, selected my correct model etc, but been unsure whether to download the lot.
Secondly, I'm not familiar with BIOS, though I know the word. My Win10 came automatically - or rather, was offered automatically and I just downloaded and installed it when it arrived.
Could you clarify for me?
Many thanks!
PS - Have now googled BIOS and understand where you're coming from. Also EAccess Violation - they all seem related so fingers crossed I'm on the right track. Will keep you informed!

Do not download them all as there will be multiple selections for different network adapters, touchpads, hdd's etc. Your device manager will let you know which you have. And you only need one driver per device, as well as your BIOS. If you click on each device in device manager it will give you more in depth information, including driver version and hardware info. Make sure your battery has a good charge on it and your laptop is plugged in before installing a new BIOS.

Hi
There were huge numbers of things in the devices box. Most of them were up to date. I tried the audio and graphics ones first and they needed updating, which I did using the windows update utility. (Surprised you can't 'batch update' everything somehow. Problem still remained.
I went to the Acer site and read scary warnings about downloading BIOS drivers. I didn't know what any of them were so I left them alone.
I ran the 'Driveforlife' utility once again and it wanted to update five drivers. I did that and rebooted and a new Intel graphics splashscreen came up.
The upshot of these ramblings is that the laptop is no longer beeping when I move the cursor, so I think it's problem solved.
Many many thanks for your help, Naturesninja.
