have been doing updates on my asus q400a laptop for the past few days and restoring my PC to get ready to sell it. Everything has been working fine, the charger and battery have never had any issues. Well, today, i noticed my laptop was NOT charging...

I found that when I plugged my laptop AC/DC power adapter into my laptop, the little green light on my AC/DC adapter brick turns off. However, when i unplug the adapter from my laptop so that it's just plugged into the wall, the little green indicator light on the brick lights back up...

I bought a new charger today, hoping that'll fix the issue.

Update - the charger i bought from amazon does the same exact same "light turn off" thing, and doesn't charge. What gives?? Is my AC power jack messed up on my laptop itself? is my motherbaord toast???

could it possibly have anything to do with the windows updates causing problems? I was on windows 8 before and when it updated to windows 8.1 it suddenly stopped charging

not that i am aware of

try gently wiggling the power connector about in the power jack see if it springs to life

and on some older ibm models a common fault was a bit of bent copper in the power jack got straightened out over time

meaning it didnt make contact--wedging a little bit of paper down the side of the power connector pushed it over enough to make those work

luckily the ibm/lenovos used jacks that dont need soldering--unfortunately yours does need to be soldered to replace
