I had the exact same problem. Brand new hyperx cloud 2, windows 10. I saw in device manager that the usb soundcard was being detected but not showing up in playback devices. I went in control pannel - troubleshooting - troubleshoot audio playback. It started scanning the usb ports and recognized the soundcard. Then in playback devices set headset as default playback devices. That did the trick for me.

Not an answer sadly, but I'm having a similar problem. Bought a pair for Kingston HyperX Cloud II's yesterday to use on my newly built system. My motherboard is the MSI Z97 Gaming 5, my OS is Windows 8.1 Professional.

For those unfamiliar with the Cloud II, it has an external USB soundcard that the 1 metre long, 3.5mm 4 pole (or TRRS) audio jack from the headset plugs in to, which then plugs into a USB slot. The idea then is that it doesn't use drivers, since the USB sound card does all the work, you just need to enable it in the "Manage my sound" settings. My problem is that this USB connection worked for all of about 5 minutes, then failed. The headset works fine itself, and I assume the mic does (I don't have a 4-pole splitter to test it on my computer, and my motherboard/case doesn't seem to have a TRRS input). However, the USB soundcard was detected for about 5 minutes, and then all of a sudden it disappeared, never to return.

I've checked device manager, sound manager, neither have any indication that it's there. I've reset the computer, I've even turned it off then pulled out the power cable entirely. I've checked BIOS with it plugged in, and the Motherboard doesn't even recognise anything is plugged into the socket. All this time, the soundcard is lit up, so it must be receiving power, but other than that there's nothing to suggest that it is even plugged in. While troubleshooting I read some people suggest to others that it might be due to the "power saving" setting of some USB slots, so I turned that off for every USB port that had it, still nothing.

The MSI z97 Gaming 5 even has an option to provide dedicated power for some USB slots meant for audio, through connecting a dedicated 4-pin molex to an adaptor which plugs into the board, and then turning on a switch. I tried that, plugged into those slots, nothing.

Is it just likely that the USB souncard that came with my headset is screwed, and I need to sort out a replacement? Are there any troubleshooting steps that I missed? I did all I could think of and/or find through Google, hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

What fixed the problem for me was to uninstall and reinstall the driver -
Playback Devices>Headset Earphone Properties>Hyper 7.1 Audio Properties>Change Settings>Driver Tab>Uninstall
Then unplug the headset and plug it back in again to re-install the drivers.
Hope this helps :)
