I have an asus laptop model K53E, bought it 4 years ago, a month ago i noticed that it was overheating, so i disassembled it, cleaned the fan from dust, applied thermal paste and got it back together, however i also noticed that the fan doesn't reach maximum speed the way it used to do.

i have searched the internet about problems that are similar to mine but i got answers about controlling fan's speed via software like speedfan, which i don't want to do since i don't want to tamper with my laptop.

could it be a faulty motherboard? not to mention i don't get any freezing, boot, blue screen of death errors, the laptop just works fine.

what also could the problem be? Thank you.

Hi,

Two things that might be causing that problem. First is the fan might be damaged already and a replacement is required then second is you can just get a dock with fan underneath it to help cool down your laptop. Also it won't be a problem to use 3rd party software to control the fan speed but just be mindful not to over run it because that's when you'll get more problem and degrade the life of the laptop's fans.

Hello,

As for controlling the fan using 3rd party software unfortunately my laptop doesn't support that, i searched a lot but my motherboard isn't listed in any of the programs, second, is there a chance that my motherboard is faulty? today i have disassembled my laptop, took out the fan and plugged it to an external 6Volts power supply, and it worked good. i don't know if it's the motherboard or the PWM wire inside the laptop
s fan, how can i be sure?

i forgot to mention that i already have a cooler under my laptop "Thermaltake", yet the temperatures are high.
