So when I select S/PDIF on my sound card software as output, the sound is awful, all I hear is almost only white noise. I was wondering if it's even possible to output S/PDIF to RCA? I bought these two cables off amazon to plug on a 90s stereo receiver. I would have used the rca or 6.3mm jack output, but those are already being used by my bookshelf speakers and headphones.

Thanks guys.

you need a jack to rca (and use the standard stereo output instead of s/pdif), that should work.

coax is digital sound, i'm surprised you hear anything at all.

edit: you can also split the jack output with one of these: http://www.conrad.com/ce/en/product/325119/SpeaKa-Professional-Jack-plug-635-mm-to-Jack-socket-63-mm-Adapter
