i have a dead hp laptop which I believe is caused by a failed motherboard. I have removed the hard drive from the dead laptop and purchased the necessary adapters to connect to a working hp laptop by USB. When I access the drives on the working laptop, the letters from the loose drive are listed as F: G: H: and I: with titles such as Recovery, Diagnostic, etc. I cannot read the files listed as anything familiar. I am looking for pictures and documents. What else do I need to have full access to the files on this loose hard drive? Thanks for the help, in advance! David

Hi,

Do a search in each drive letter for your pictures. Easiest way to search for pictures is by using their file extension with pictures it should be .jpeg or .jpg. For documents like Word, Excel and PowerPoint here's their file extensions.

Word - .doc, docx
Excel - .xls .xlsx
Power Point - .ppt

Hope this helps.
