Two nights ago, I tried to shut down my HP Envy 15 m6-n113dx (I've only had it for about 3 months) which is running Windows 10. I thought that my laptop shut down because the screen was black but my power LED was still on and my fans were still running. I popped out and then popped in the battery but my computer turned back on with a black screen (power LED and fans were on). Tried holding down the power button but the laptop wouldn't shut off. I tried to launch BIOS and do a hard reset but it didn't work either. Whenever I plug in my AC adapter it just turns on with a black screen (power LED and fans were on). Please help because I don't wanna send it into the shop or open it up to void my warranty and HP customer support barely helped :(

Hi,

This could be just the setting on your PC on what the power button do when your press it. I have some steps here you might want to try that could resolve that problem.

Steps:
1. Press Start then go to control panel.
2. Go to power option.
3. From the right pane, select "Choose what Power Buttons do".
4. Under the "When I press the power button" option please select "Shut Down"
5. Change both "On battery: and "Plugged in" as Shut Down.
6 Lastly click save changes then try to shut it down.

I am having the same issue. Please, the screen is black with LED light and fans running. If I could click on anything or type anything, the problem wouldn't exist. Every answer online to this issue is to go to something in the control panel or something similar. Did anyone get a real answer yet or is my laptop having to go to Geeksquad or somewhere similar? No matter what, the screen will not change or even turn off. Please, does anyone have an answer? What did you guys who had this problem last year do? Should I get it to a shop? I appreciate anyone who spends the time to answer and help. Thank you.

Go to that power option menu. Select the turn off again. Hit save. I has it set to it, already. Selecting that option again and hitting save fixed it for me.

My Problem solved (Similar to yours but Dell laptop) by going to boot options in bios settings and setting them all to default.
here are the clear steps:
1. when you just powered on your latop then hit the F2 key for opening BIOS settings( The key can be different according to the laptop model)
2. then navigate to boot options
3. set everything to default and then save the changes.
4. Now, restart the windows normally.
5. It works. and enjoy!

I have the same issue, when shutting down, the screen goes black with LED light on and fans and cpu are still on and running.

2 solutions in the internet. change something in bios, or change something in power options in control panel. none of them worked for my ASUS TP500L.
