My wife is going back to school and has expressed an interest in having a laptop for gaming(WoW, FF XIV, Sims). Obviously, she isn't a hardcore gamer, but I don't want her to have to tone down graphic settings too much compared to her desktop. Currently she has an i5 3350p Cpu, 8gb's of Ram and a Radeon 270x in her desktop, so something slightly below that in comparison is the goal without dropping too much.

I'm current on the models for desktop Gpu's, but not sure how the mobile versions compare to desktop versions so I can't really get an idea on how well they'll perform. Hence my asking the community.

Requirements are a 17.3 inch or larger screen and a budget preferably under a thousand dollars. I don't want her having to deal with a smaller screen than that, and I know I could drop 2k and get a better system than my desktop. Thank you everyone for your input.

I would have a look at the laptops in xotic pc as they should have something for you. Also do not get the n series from asus for gaming. This is not what they are designed to do and will start slowing down after 2 years. Made that mistake as I own 1 but with a weaker gpu. If you are an asus fan, look at the rog gl series. They are portable and should have enough graphics power to handle those games.

I suppose my actual question should have been, what graphics chipset am I looking for? I'm not sure how well the 860m or even 960m performs compared to a desktop pc, so, what would be the equivalent, or where would it place on Tom's hierarchy chart?
