updated laptop to windows 10, now my samsung smart tv does not broadcast sound through the HDMI connection

Check your playback devices. Down where the little speaker icon is in the bottom right of the computer screen right click click playback devices then right click your tv in the menu that pops up and set as default. Make sure your plugged into the TV when you do this.

Are you trying to connect to a tv that has sound coming out of the tv or is the tv connected to a surround sound system?
I have a crap 760GM-p34 mobo and a 26' Sony Bravia XBR TV for a monitor (KDL-V26XBR1)
At first Windows 10 device manager said that I had Realtek sound and showed me speakers in the device manager.
After loading the udgrade for the software, still no sound.
Somewhere along the line another output device showed up:
1-Sony TV (AMD High Definition, Audio Device)
I changed the default to the Sony device and wall, GREAT SOUND!!!!
How to:
Windows + X
Click on either Device Manager or in the Run box type Devmgmt.msc and enter to get to device list
First item in list is Audio inputs and outputs, click
Highlight your device and set as the default
You should have sound as I did!
