I tried the above trick i.e. force close on start up when windows circle starts (3 times) then try trouble shooter. But my screen keeps flicking on then off constantly but only after I have signed in.When windows first starts no flicker! Help! Using windows 7 pro on a sony viao with intel core i5.

It started when I was away about end of July but I have only just opened the machine again to try and fix it!

I think something is trying to load and can't so it keeps retrying. The first screen is okay but I can't go to the one with all the icons, or get to my hard drive or my documents etc., etc.

can you get into safemode using f8 to do a system restore to before this started?
