Im looking at picking up a Sager np8651. It looks like i can get one through either Sager themselves
http://www.sagernotebook.com/Notebook-NP8651.html
Or Xotic PC

http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8651-clevo-p650se-p-7690.html

they both seem to come out to the same price. I need to look into taxes and shipping to see which is cheaper. Im just curious if anyone has any experience with either of these retailers. I would think if the price is the same it would be better to go with Sager since they put the machines together dont they? How is Xotic PC?

One thing that bugs me is you have to pay like $25 for no dead pixel guarantee... wtf? I thought that junk was included with anything you order. I've always just exchanged any monitor/tv that i got that had dead pixels. If i dont get that does that mean im just screwed if i get dead pixels?

Sager is the retail arm of Clevo and there are Clevo distributors throughout the world. Xotic PC is one of them.

Sager distributors are prohibited from undercutting each other with their **advertised** pricing. That doesn't mean you can't cut a deal with any distributor. We cut a deal sometime back with one of the larger ones ... they gave us a custom splash screen on boot and a significant discount to our members. I now only work with the smaller distributors whereby we:'

1. Deal with the same individual from component selection, sales, support and warranty issues.
2. Deal with person in authority who can adjust "company policy" and authorize specific discounts.

I'd suggest reading the Clevo FAQ's here...

I will pick XOTIC PC for 99% custom PC .
And has back to school promotion :)
And about the 25$ fee for no dead pixel is a guarantee that the laptop will be tested and re-tested for a good condition, it worths :)

These are two of the most oft recommended distributors

http://www.lpc-digital.com/
http://www.malibal.com/

I have been using LPC for the last 5 years or so .... not a single complaint.

Military and students get discount but any individual discount depends on order total .... they match / beat any price.

thanks for the info. I see lpc-digital carries them, but dont see anything on that malibal.com site. I guess i'll try calling and pricing it out on Sager, Xotic and LPC. Id like to hear any experience anyones had with those 3. It seems like you like LPC and Rubiniwa liked Xotic. I need to compare the warranties too.

Just seems weird to me that they charge you for that dead pixel thing. Like i said i always just exchange a prodcut if it has dead pixels, and its actually happened to me twice. Once on a Samsung TV for my uncle and once on a monitor from BenQ. Do they not do any testing on these when they make them? Id think a HDD error scan and dead pixel test would be the first 2 things you would do. Seems nuts you have to pay them $25 to do that. Maybe I can get one of them to throw that in for free

Oh one more thing. These are backordered until the end of the month. If i go directly through Sager would it get here any sooner? Or would the other distributors get them around the same time? Time is kinda an issue here since the whole reason im buying this is im sick and bedridden for the next few months and need a laptop to game on. Im sick of my 3DS =P

I tried Xotic.... kept getting put on hold as sales person needed to ask somebody smarter :)

I guess I have had about 6 or so from LPC used by myself, family or employees. But also when client or colleague asks, i send them to Larry.

Most retail and manufacturer warrantees state that a screen is not defective unless sit has > X amount of dead pixels.

http://kb.newegg.com/Policies/Article/1167

Television and Monitor Dead Pixels:

Televisions or Monitors with 8 dead pixels or more can be returned for a replacement within 30 days from the purchase date.

About half the time, you can unstick a dead pixel.

or the manual method

http://www.pcworld.com/article/170549/revive_stuck_pixel.html

They do test them.... the ones that pass are the ones you pay the extra $ for :) .... it pays for the cost of the unboxing, testing, reboxing. Tho if you search the list of offerings, there's usually like a Model P170 and a P170A in which ya get extra stuff in a bundle that saves a bunch of money and they oft come with the free dead pixel warranty.

You pay one way or the other. If that was free, your discount amount is likely affected. Depending on purchase price, the ones I have bought ranged from $50 - $150. One I was $15 shy of moving up to a discount that was $50 higher ... so I took the option for a $20 more expensive wireless / BT module (Intel) and I netted $30 paying $20 more and then getting a extra $50 off.

They all come from the same place, especially if you selected options; unless somebody has stock for whatever reason. You could become a Clevo distributor. I usually wait 7 - 10 days. I pick the "unbranded" option which I dunno if available thru Sager direct.

thanks for the help, went with LPC the other night. Xotic i had the situation you had.. had to keep putting me on hold and asking and told me they'd email me back the answers. i the lady just said a guy named Larry (your larry? lol?) would call me back and he did an hour or two later. Answered my questions and threw in the dead pixel coverage for free so i said screw it and went with them

only thing im leery about is i went with the IPS monitor instead of the default TN. Mostly because the default TN is kinda junk. I hope the IPS doesn't have significant input lag or ghosting/motion blur. Motion blur bugs me. I THINK this is the pannel though im not sure

35ms input lag is like TV levels.

Motion Blur is a By comparison, the Acer predator, the one I am talking about, "feature" of IPS .... I have only seen one screen that I didn't have issues with and it has 144 Hz, G-Sync and ULMB to kill the motion blur. That was the Acer Predator XB270HU

hmm what do you mean 'by comparison'? I love the colors on IPS but input lag, motion blur and IPS glow are big drawbacks for me. Im just rolling the dice and hoping its not bad on this one. I know motion blur isn't just related to response time but it factors in i think

i hope its not 35ms that seems way high

The internet ate /jumbled a few characters. "Motion Blur is a "feature" of IPS Screens. At 60 Hz, no G-Sync / Freesync, no motion blur technology, IPS was generally shunned by gamers. By comparisn....."
