I just got a logitech z-680 5.1 sound system I have it connected to my msi z87-g41 onboard sound device which is a realtek hd audio all drivers are up to date.I have it wired 6 channel mode everything seems to work fine when i do the sound test sound comes out of every speaker as it should but when i try to listen to anything i.e. music movie games I get no sound from my center speaker at all i even tried doing a 5.1 test video on you tube.this is really bothering me i have been at this for days trying to fix it.Before I got the z-680 I had it hookeds up to a stereo receiver the exact same way with 6 channel mode and had the same issue that i'm having now.when i go back to the realtek audio manager and click the center speaker it works. I dont know what to do. I went to my local pc shop and was gonna get a usb sound card but they were out of stock. Any ideas on what i could try to get the center speaker working?? Thanks

verify that the move disk you are trying to play is encoded in 5.1 (play it with a dvd player hooked up to your home theater). if it works fine and plays out the center channel then you can verify that this disk is correct. try that in your pc using windows media player or another player that is known to be working besides VLC media player. on a known good disk, do you still not get center?

note: almost all music is stereo only. some movies such as foreign works, animation, older titles and some online streaming services are stereo only. most games should be surround however may have an option in the settings for this to turn on and off.

make sure you have your system set to 5.1 in settings and that you do not have any of the speakers set to full range.

if you still get nothing, could be something wrong with the onboard or drivers although what is odd is that you get sound when you do a test which points towards audio working fine but the files you are playing being the issue.

i'm thinking a cheap soundcard like a xonar dg has a good chance of fixing the issue provided its not any of the above.

well i finally got it to work i downloaded sound blaster cinema which took over most of my audio enhancements before i installed that i was using realtek hd audio manager to select 5.1 and other enhancements like E.Q. Loudness ect.. which i think that should of worked to get the full 5.1 but w/e im just happy i got it working. In the sound blaster cinema options i had to select the surround option and turn that up past 50% to hear the center channel. I came across alot of other people having this same issue online i hope this can help someone.
