If you remove the copy protection from a DVD, can you tell if it is removed?

I have a series of lectures from my company on a copy protected DVD, and I want to lend it to a colleague to review. If he removes the copy protection to copy it, how am i able to identify this?

My main confusion is with the term "removing copy right protection". When someone does this, is it permanently removed from the DVD, or is it something that software just does when reading a DVD and it doesn't affect the DVD whatsoever?

Thanks!

It doesn't affect the DVD at all. The DVD is burned and set in and nothing can change something on that.

Basically software reads the disc and removes the protection and makes a new copy without the protection and there is no way to know if that's happened.
